Dietmar Hamann issues warning to Chelsea about Liverpool in title race
The former Liverpool midfielder believes Chelsea can be caught in the title race
Dietmar Hamann believes Chelsea are not “uncatchable” in the Premier League title race.
The Blues are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and are six points clear of their closest rivals Liverpool after 17 games.
Chelsea were 1-0 winners against Crystal Palace last weekend after Diego Costa’s first-half header in the London derby at Selhurst Park.
The west London outfit haven’t lost a Premier League game since a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.
Liverpool moved to within six points of current leaders Chelsea after the Reds were 1-0 winners against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday night.
The Reds have won their last two Premier League fixtures thanks to victories over Middlesbrough and Everton.
Former Liverpool midfielder Hamann warned Chelsea that Liverpool are capable of overhauling Antonio Conte’s men in the title race.
“Liverpool are six points off the leaders Chelsea, but Antonio Conte’s men are certainly not uncatchable. Conte has tweaked his formation and since then they’ve been flying,” Hamann wrote in his Paddy Power blog.
“You have to give them credit for the run they’re on as they’ve been fantastic. But they’re not the finished product, and they’re not unbeatable. Chelsea won’t win the next 11 games on the spin that’s for certain. If Liverpool can put a run together and stay within touching distance, they have a live chance as the season wears on.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last term.
Liverpool lost to Manchester City and Sevilla in the League Cup and Europa League final.
