Dietmar Hamann: Jurgen Klopp has made cutthroat decisions at Liverpool unlike Pep Guardiola
The former Liverpool midfielder has been impressed with Jurgen Klopp's impact at the Anfield outfit
Dietmar Hamann has praised Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for making the decision to drop Loris Karius and restore Simon Mignolet to the starting line-up.
The Liverpool boss signed Karius in a £4.7m deal from Bundesliga outfit Mainz in the summer transfer window as Klopp looked to improve his goalkeeping options.
However, the Germany Under-21 international struggled in a 4-3 loss at Bournemouth and a 2-2 draw with West Ham United after a number of high-profile errors.
Klopp opted to drop Karius and bring in Mignolet for their trip to Middlesbrough last month and the Belgian shot stopper kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 win at the Riverside Stadium.
Liverpool went on to beat Everton and Stoke City in their next two Premier League games, although Mignolet was criticised for his inability to keep out Jonathan Walters’s header.
Guardiola, meanwhile, opted to send out England number one Joe Hart on loan to Serie A side Torina after signing Claudio Bravo from Barcelona in the summer.
Writing in his Paddy Power column, Hamann praised Klopp’s decision-making.
“Klopp has also made a cut-throat decision, whereas Pep hasn’t. Both clubs have had goalkeeper problems this season, but Klopp has dropped Loris Karius and brought back Simon Mignolet,” Hamann said.
“There was huge pressure on Karius publically after high-profile mistakes against Bournemouth and West Ham, and while Klopp defended him in the press, he changed him and dealt with the issue behind closed doors.”
