Dietmar Hamann tells Jurgen Klopp: This is what Liverpool must learn to do in title race
Dietmar Hamann says Liverpool must learn to etch out victories when not playing well to triumph in title race
Dietmar Hamann says Liverpool need to learn how to etch out Premier League victories when Jurgen Klopp’s men aren’t playing well.
The Merseyside outfit were 1-0 winners against Everton in the derby on Monday night after Sadio Mane scored a winner in the fourth minute of added time at Goodison Park.
Liverpool hoisted themselves up to second place and six points behind current leaders Chelsea thanks to their close-fought win against the Toffees earlier this week.
Klopp’s side have only lost two games in the Premier League this term following defeats by Bournemouth and Burnley on the road.
However, former Liverpool midfielder Hamann was encouraged by the Merseyside outfit’s performance against Everton despite struggling to get to grips with the Toffees in the first half.
The retired Germany international explained what Liverpool must start to do more often if Klopp’s side are to triumph in the title race.
“Three points in the Merseyside derby is always important – but to snatch it in stoppage time will give the club a huge morale boost. Liverpool have to win these tight games and Sadio Mane’s goal could be a defining moment come May,” Hamann wrote in his Paddy Power blog.
“They’ve dropped points against Bournemouth and West Ham, and if they want to stay in contention those are the games they need to be winning. Jurgen Klopp’s side need to learn how to win even when they’re not firing on all cylinders.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place under Klopp last season after the German took over the reins back in October 2015.
