Eden Hazard admits this Chelsea situation surprised him
Eden Hazard admits that he was surprised that Antonio Conte picked him to start for Chelsea ahead of Michy Batshuayi
Eden Hazard has admitted that he was surprised that Antonio Conte picked him to start up front for Chelsea against Bournemouth rather than Michy Batshuayi.
There had been suggestions that Batshuayi would be handed his first Premier League start of the season in the absence of the suspended Diego Costa.
However, Conte opted to start Hazard up front for the Blues, and the move paid dividends as Hazard scored to help Chelsea notch up a 3-0 victory.
Batshuayi is being made to wait for his chance to impress for Chelsea in the Premier League.
And his Belgian team-mates Hazard has admitted that he was surprised to start up front ahead of the strike on Boxing Day at Stamford Bridge.
Hazard is quoted as saying by The Daily Express: “I felt quite alright. During the week I thought that Michy would play there because Diego (Costa) was suspended.
“But the coach picked me to play up top, so I tried to do my best. I had already played there a little last year.
“So I know the position a little. Generally it went well.”
Chelsea now turn their attentions towards their home Premier League clash against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have won their last 12 games in the top flight.
