Paul Merson states prediction for Everton v Arsenal

The former Arsenal midfielder is backing Arsene Wenger's side to beat Everton at Goodison Park

Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to ease to a 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.

The north London side will be looking to record a third successive Premier League victory following their 3-1 win against Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal have the chance to hoist themselves above Chelsea on goal difference if Arsene Wenger’s side manage to beat an Everton outfit that are winless in their last five Premier League games.

Ronald Koeman’s men slumped to a 3-2 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon to leave the Toffees well off the pace for a top-four finish in the 2016-17 season.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing the Gunners to secure three points at Goodison Park on Tuesday night and keep the pressure on current Premier League leaders Chelsea.

“You would think this was a gimme with Everton struggling like mad and Arsenal flying, but Tuesday night, under the lights at Goodison, it is difficult.

“I have been there enough times in my career and it’s a hard place to win, even though they are not playing well. Any win for Arsenal would be great for them.

“They are in the title race, no doubt about it, but these are the games that win you the league.

“Arsenal look impressive and we have seen it for a number of years at this stage of the season, but the big thing this time around is when they don’t play well they are not losing and they are getting draws here and there.

“They should have lost to Middlesbrough at home but they drew, then they drew with Manchester United. Those points mount up at the end of the season.”
