Mark Lawrenson states bold prediction for Everton v Arsenal
The former Liverpool defender is backing Arsenal to beat Everton
Mark Lawrenson is backing Everton to secure a point against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.
The Toffees have been on a miserable run of form in the Premier League in recent months after a return of five points from a possible 18 to leave the Merseyside outfit in ninth place.
Everton lost 3-2 to Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon despite Belgium international Romelu Lukaku scoring twice against the London side.
Arsenal, on the other hand, haven’t lost a Premier League game since a 4-3 defeat by title rivals Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in the opening fixture of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Gunners are unbeaten in their last 14 Premier League games to leave Arsene Wenger’s side three points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes Everton will get a result against the Gunners at Goodison Park.
“For Everton to take the lead against Watford and then get completely taken apart was a worry,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“It was another poor result for the Toffees, and puts their manager Ronald Koeman under a bit of pressure.
“I think everyone realises Koeman needs time and, crucially, two more transfer windows to turn things around.
“In contrast, Arsenal just keep on winning and are clearly in very good form.
“I just fancy Everton to get something from this game, though. They are still unbeaten at home in the league and I think they will hold on to that record for a bit longer.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04.
