John Barnes is backing Liverpool to make it back to back wins in the Premier League by beating Everton in Monday’s Merseyside derby clash at Goodison Park.

The Reds head into their clash against the Toffees fresh from their 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Wednesday night, a result which hoisted them up to second place in the table.

Everton, meanwhile, will be feeling confident after their impressive 2-1 comeback win over Arsenal at Goodison Park last week.

However, former Liverpool star Barnes feels that Jurgen Klopp’s men will have the edge over their Merseyside rivals in Monday’s showdown at Goodison Park.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Sport Review, Barnes said: “Liverpool have had the upper hand over Everton in previous years.

“Everton’s victory against Arsenal will help to give them a little bit of confidence, so it’s quite tight, but I’ve always gone for a Liverpool victory in recent years.

“At Goodison, if you look at the way they played against Arsenal, they sat back and defended in numbers. I think against Liverpool they will want to get forward more – and if you do that, you leave yourselves open.

“Liverpool are the best counter-attacking team in the country at the moment, so I’ll go for a Liverpool victory.”

Liverpool are aiming to at least break back into the top four this season after their eighth placed finish in the Premier League under Klopp last term.
