Michael Owen states his prediction for Everton v Liverpool

Michael Owen looks ahead to Liverpool's Merseyside derby showdown with Everton on Monday night

Michael Owen is backing Liverpool to maintain their Premier League title challenge by beating Everton in Monday’s Merseyside derby clash at Goodison Park.

The Reds returned to winning ways in the top flight on Wednesday night when they were 3-0 winners over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium to move them up to second place in the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had dropped points against Bournemouth and West Ham before that game and the victory was a welcome win for the Merseysiders.

Klopp’s side now turn their attentions towards their crunch clash against Everton, who head into the game fresh from having come to behind to beat Arsenal on Wednesday night.

And former Liverpool striker is expecting to see the Reds shade the contest and take all three points on Monday night in the final Premier League game before Christmas.

Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Everton suddenly sprung to live after a dismal first half-hour against Arsenal earlier in the week, but I just feel Liverpool will take the points in what promises to be a Merseyside derby to savour.

“We highlighted the burgeoning talents of Divock Origi earlier in the week and I just wonder if the Belgium national manager, and former Blues boss, Roberto Martinez will be in attendance to see his young strikers Origi and Romelu Lukaku go head-to-head at Goodison.”
