Jamie Redknapp states prediction for Everton v Liverpool

The former Liverpool captain is backing Jurgen Klopp's side to triumph in the Merseyside derby

Jamie Redknapp is backing Liverpool to beat Everton in Monday night’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The 18-time English champions were 3-0 winners against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Adam Lallana and Divock Origi at the Riverside Stadium.

Liverpool have the opportunity to hoist themselves above Manchester City and into second place if Jurgen Klopp’s side manage to beat Everton in the derby.

Everton were 2-1 winners against Liverpool’s title rivals Arsenal in their most-recent Premier League fixture after coming from 1-0 down thanks to goals from Seamus Coleman and Ashley Williams.

The Toffees have only managed to win one of their last six Premier League games to leave them well off the pace in the title race.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Merseyside derby on Monday night, Redknapp tipped Liverpool to secure three points at Goodison Park.

“There are so many interesting battles in this game, but I think Liverpool will edge it,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“Everton have a lot of quality when they turn it on, but they have been a strange, inconsistent side this year. With Lallana in the form he’s in, I can see the Reds getting the points.”

Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.

Klopp won his first Merseyside derby in April thanks to a 4-0 victory at Anfield.
