Steven Gerrard predicts outcome of Everton v Liverpool

The former Liverpool captain is hoping Jurgen Klopp's side can secure a derby win on Monday night

Steven Gerrard is hoping Liverpool can give their former captain the perfect Christmas present in Monday night’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The Reds will make the short trip across Stanley Park in search of a second successive Premier League win against an out-of-sorts Everton side.

Ronald Koeman’s men were winless in six Premier League games before the Toffees managed to come from behind to secure a 2-1 win against Liverpool’s title rivals Arsenal at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.

Liverpool produced one of the best away performances in the Premier League this season on Wednesday night after goals from Adam Lallana and Divock Origi sealed a 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The Merseyside outfit haven’t won the Premier League title despite finishing in runners-up spot on three occasions during Gerrard’s career.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show, the former Liverpool captain previewed Monday night’s Merseyside derby.

“We’ve had some great battles with the Blues over the years. It was my favourite game,” Gerrard said.

“You asked me what would be my favourite present for Christmas and it would certainly be three points against them on Monday!”
