Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Everton v Man United
The Liverpool legend is backing Manchester United to drop more points in the Premier League this weekend
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to succumb to their third successive Premier League stalemate with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils have played out a 1-1 draw with Arsenal and West Ham United in their last two top-flight fixture at Old Trafford to leave Jose Mouirnho’s side 11 points behind leaders Chelsea.
The 20-time English champions returned to winning ways in the League Cup on Wednesday night as goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial helped the Red Devils ease to a 4-1 win against the Hammers.
However, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes Mourinho’s Manchester United side could struggle to collect three points against Everton at a notoriously difficult ground for the Red Devils.
“Manchester United are doing well in the cup competitions but in the league they have been very unspectacular and I can see that continuing at the weekend,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“I don’t think United can win the league, which is one of the reasons why Jose Mourinho is trying to win the EFL Cup.
“Any sort of silverware would be good news for him and United this season, especially if they finish outside of the top four.”
Manchester United have only managed to win two of their last 10 Premier League games, leaving them well off the pace in the race to secure a place in this season’s top four.
The Red Devils will take on Hull City in the League Cup semi final in January with a place in the Wembley final up for grabs.
