Paul Merson states prediction for Everton v Man United
The Arsenal legend is backing Manchester United to succumb to a third successive stalemate at Everton
Paul Merson says he doesn’t expect Manchester United to return to winning ways against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils have drawn their last two Premier League games after 1-1 stalemates with title rivals Arsenal and Slaven Bilic’s West Ham side.
However, the 20-time English champions secured a morale-boosting 4-1 victory over the Hammers in their EFL Cup quarter-final clash at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Everton, on the other hand, have lost three of their last five Premier League games to fall nine points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
But Merson doesn’t envisage Jose Mourinho’s side collecting three points at Goodison Park despite Everton’s stuttering form under new manager Ronald Koeman.
“Manchester United moved the ball very quickly against West Ham and did the job well,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I had been saying for a while that United would batter someone soon as they create so many chances without scoring. However, this is a hard game for them at Everton. Goodison Park will be rocking as they’ll want to get one over United.”
Manchester United appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager in May after Louis van Gaal guided the Red Devils to a disappointing fourth-placed finish.
Mourinho signed four players in the summer transfer window as the ex Chelsea boss looked to stamp his authority on the Old Trafford outfit.
