Ex Chelsea manager issues warning to Antonio Conte over current form
The former Chelsea boss is worried that the Blues could see their winning run come to an end during the festive period
Ruud Gullit has warned Antonio Conte that Chelsea could struggle to maintain their current form over the festive schedule.
The Blues were 3-1 winners against title rivals Manchester City last weekend after Diego Costa cancelled out Gary Cahill’s own goal before Willian and Eden Hazard netted goals on the counter-attack.
Chelsea have won their last eight Premier League games after a return of 22 goals and six clean sheets to leave the west London outfit three points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
Conte’s side have beaten Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester United, Southampton, Everton, Middlesbrough, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in their last eight outings.
Speaking to BBC Sport ahead of Chelsea’s clash against West Brom on Sunday afternoon, Gullit admitted that the Blues could find the festive period challenging in the Premier League.
“Can Chelsea carry on winning? I hope so, but there will come a moment when they get injuries or tiredness. Look at the next few weeks and the number of games everyone plays,” Gullit told BBC Sport.
“There will be days when they don’t play well. When that happens the most important thing is not to lose and, with the way they are defensively, even on difficult days they will always have a chance.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place last season after a dismal defence of their Premier League crown under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink.
The Blues signed five players in the summer transfer window.
