Ex-Man United midfielder tips Antonio Conte to make these Chelsea signings

The former Irish midfielder discusses where Chelsea need to improve their squad

Chelsea could sign a couple of defenders and a centre-forward in the January transfer window, according to Johnny Giles.

The Blues have made a brilliant start to life under Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign after an incredible winning run.

Chelsea won 14 games on the spin before the visit of Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League’s Boxing Day fixtures.

The west London side have beaten title rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during their impressive sequence of wins.

Conte signed five players in the summer transfer window as he looked to put his stamp on the Chelsea squad after taking over the reins from Guus Hiddink.

Former Manchester United midfielder Giles believes Conte could sign a couple of defenders and a striker in the January transfer window to help bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the season.

“He has this window coming up and I wouldn’t be surprised if he bought a couple of defenders and a centre-forward. I think he has the means to do that and they won’t stop him spending money,” Giles told Newstalk.

Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League last season after a disappointing campaign under Jose Mourinho and then Hiddink.
