Gabriel Paulista sends blunt message to his Arsenal team-mates

Gabriel says that it is time for his Arsenal team-mates to stand up and be counted after their poor run of form

Gabriel Paulista has told his Arsenal team-mates to take a good look at their own performances after their recent back to back defeats.

Arsene Wenger’s men were pegged back and beaten 2-1 by Manchester City at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon just days after losing to Everton by the same scoreline at Goodison Park.

The north London side have been criticised for their second-half performances in both games as Wenger’s men let the lead slip on both occasions.

Arsenal’s losses have also been damaging to their Premier League title hopes as they left the Gunners nine points behind leaders Chelsea heading into the festive period in the top flight.

And Gabriel feels that there is no other option but to focus on improving themselves as the hectic festive period looms large.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Gabriel said: “We had two away games to gain six points, and we ended up not achieving that,” Gabriel said. “We lost both games on reversals [losing from a winning position], with basic mistakes.

“This cannot happen. I think each of us needs to reflect and try to keep each other in check. We must know how to demand from each other, and how to respect each other.

“We were coming from a good string of games, and met Everton feeling totally confident that we would win the match. We did start out winning, but ended up suffering a comeback – once again.

“We conceded two goals, which is something that just can’t happen to a team as big as ours. And it wasn’t different on Sunday.

“We started out winning and ended up losing on a comeback. I think now is a good time for the team to stop and think about the mistakes we’ve made in these two games to try and improve on that.”
