The Spanish striker has been in top form for the Blues so far this season and nodded the Blues ahead on the stroke of half-time when he connected with Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross and his looping header found the back of the net.

The goal was Costa’s 13th strike in the Premier League this season and it helped Chelsea keep their place at the top of the Premier League table heading into the hectic festive period.

And Lineker used his personal Twitter account to praise the Spaniard after he headed the Blues ahead:

There was one negative for Chelsea after Saturday’s game, however. Both Costa and N’Golo Kante picked up yellow cards at Selhurst Park to rule them out of the Blues’ Boxing Day clash against Bournemouth.

And Stan Collymore tweeted:

Saturday’s win was Chelsea’s 11th on the spin in the Premier League and lifted them nine points clear at the top of the table.
