Gary Neville delivers his assessment of Chelsea's start to life under new manager Antonio Conte
Gary Neville has admitted that he has been very impressed by Antonio Conte’s strong start to life as Chelsea manager.
The Italian was appointed as the club’s new boss in the summer and was tasked with steering the Blues back into the top four after their disastrous 10th-placed finish last season.
Chelsea have been in stunning form in recent weeks and have won their last 11 games in a row in the Premier League to leave them flying six points clear at the top of the table over Christmas.
The west London side have the supposed advantage of no European football this season, meaning that the Blues can focus solely on domestic affairs as they look to win the title this term.
And former Manchester United defender Neville has been extremely impressed by what he has seen from the west London side under their new manager this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday Night Football, Neville said: “Look, he’s had good training ground time with his team because of the fixture list and not being in Europe.
“You can see what Jurgen Klopp is doing at Liverpool and what Pep Guardiola is trying to do at City. You can now start to see what Jose Mourinho is trying to create at United.
“He [Conte] has had the blessing of not being in Europe and having great training ground time with the team, week in, week out. From that point of view as a coach, he’s been blessed in some ways because of the lack of European football.
“But he’s doing his job brilliantly because they’re doing exactly what you’d expect Conte to do.
“They’re a replica of Juventus and Italy in terms of the way they play: solid, reliable and good to watch. I’ve enjoyed watching them.”
