Gary Neville disagrees with Arsene Wenger about Arsenal's mentality after their 2-1 loss to Manchester City
Gary Neville disagreed with Arsene Wenger’s claim that Arsenal’s mentality remains strong despite their recent 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League.
The Arsenal manager watched his side slump to another 2-1 defeat in the Premier League last Sunday as the Gunners were beaten by Pep Guardiola’s men at The Etihad.
That loss came after their 2-1 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park and left Wenger’s men trailing Premier League leaders Chelsea by nine points heading into the Christmas period.
In both games, Arsenal had taken the lead and looked relatively comfortable, only to suffer a dip in performance and end up losing the game.
Wenger insisted that he was not concerned about Arsenal’s mental strength after their defeat to City, but former Manchester United defender Neville has questioned that part of the Gunners’ game.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the loss, Neville said: “I disagree with his [Wenger’s] point that the mentality is strong.
“Wenger will be more frustrated with how his team has performed.
“There was a huge physical drop in the second half from Arsenal. I’m not quite sure where that came from.
“I questioned it in commentary whether they travelled back in midweek and what time they’d got there. They looked completely lethargic and were walking around the pitch in such a huge game.”
Arsenal take on West Brom at The Emirates on Boxing Day.
