Gary Neville issues stark warning to Arsenal duo about their contracts
Gary Neville tells Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil that they will not be able to hold Arsenal to ransom over their contracts
Gary Neville has told Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil that they won’t be able to hold Arsenal to ransom about their new contracts at the club.
There has been plenty of speculation about both players’ situations at The Emirates after they both entered into the final 18 months of their deals at the club.
Both Ozil and Sanchez are believed to be in discussions with Arsenal about the possibility of extending their contracts at the club.
However, the duo are likely to want significant wage increases if they are to commit their futures to the Gunners.
But former Manchester United defender Neville feels that there will come a point where Arsenal will not be prepared to pay over the odds to keep the duo.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, Neville said: “We talk about Sanchez and Ozil and that Arsenal Football Club is going to end if they leave tomorrow or in six months…
“Arsenal have had far better players than them in the last 20 years.
“I wouldn’t worry too much about them leaving if they are holding the club to ransom.
“Make them an offer, if they don’t stay, let them go and Arsenal Football Club will still be here in 100 years time.
“I wouldn’t worry about those two, as good a players as they are.”
Arsenal’s loss to Manchester City was their second in succession after their 2-1 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park last week.
The north London side are now nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.
