Gary Neville issues warning to Antonio Conte over Chelsea in the title race
The Manchester United legend believes Chelsea's title bid could unravel if Antonio Conte lost two or three key players
Chelsea’s title bid could easily unravel if Antonio Conte lost two or three of his key players to injury, according to Gary Neville.
The Blues have been in imperious form in the Premier League title race ahead of their trip to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night.
Chelsea were 1-0 winners against West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon thanks to Diego Costa’s late winner in west London.
The 2015 Premier League champions have won their last nine top-flight games, scoring 23 times and keeping an incredible seven clean sheets.
Former Manchester United defender Neville warned Conte that their title challenge could implode should Chelsea suffer injuries to some key players.
“It wouldn’t take much to knock them off that consistent run,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“Chelsea benefit hugely from the fact they haven’t got a lot of mid-week football and they have a very good first XI. If they were to lose one or two very important players, I think they would struggle.”
Costa has scored 12 times in 15 Premier League games ahead of their trip to Sunderland on Wednesday night.
Eden Hazard, meanwhile, has netted eight times in the 2016-17 season so far.
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last term under Jose Mourinho and his interim replacement Guus Hiddink.
