Gary Neville: Jose Mourinho has stumbled on something at Man United

Gary Neville praises Manchester United's defenders for their impressive performances in recent weeks

Gary Neville believes that Jose Mourinho has been fortunate to stumble upon a strong back four at Manchester United this season.

The Red Devils have made a stuttering start to life under their new boss in the Premier League and had only won two of their last 11 games in the top flight before Sunday’s clash with Spurs.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan ended up scoring the only goal of the game as the Red Devils secured a 1-0 win over Spurs at Old Trafford to boost their top-four hopes.

Mourinho’s team have inevitably come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks following their stuttering start to the new campaign.

However, the former Manchester United defender believes that the Red Devils’ defence deserves praise for their solid form in recent games.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s win, Neville said: “Jose Mourinho has stumbled on something a little bit with that back four, but in terms of the team I like them a lot more than last season. As a Manchester United fan I like them more.

“They have to go on now and kick on from this and win game after game and get the results the performances have been suggesting.

“It was a big moment today.”
