Gary Neville: My honest thoughts on Arsenal duo’s contract situations
Gary Neville tells Arsenal fans to trust Arsene Wenger to deal with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil's contract situations
Gary Neville has told Arsenal fans to trust Arsene Wenger in dealing with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s contract situations.
The pair’s futures have been a source of relentless speculation in recent weeks after they both entered into the final 18 months of their contracts with the north London club.
Sanchez and Ozil are both believed to be in talks with Arsenal about the possibility of extending their current contracts at the club beyond the summer of 2018.
However, there has also been plenty of speculation linking the players with moves away from The Emirates, with one report claiming that Sanchez has been offered as much as £400,000 a week in wages to move to China.
Former Manchester United defender Neville, however, is backing Wenger to get the best deal for the north London club with regards to both players.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Sunday, Neville said: “I think Arsene Wenger is very reluctant to pay what would be the ‘scandalous’ levels of wages.
“We heard about £400,000 a week being offered to Alexis Sanchez to go to China. We’re talking about these levels of money being offered in China and he’s obviously waving that in front of Arsenal and saying ‘get close to it’ or something along those lines.
“Arsene Wenger has always been very diligent and actually has done a brilliant job at Arsenal over the last 15 to 20 years. He really has, in terms of managing the budgets, keeping them competitive and staying in the Champions League.”
Arsenal are currently fourth in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Chelsea.
