Gary Neville reacts to Liverpool’s dramatic 1-0 win at Everton, makes title claim

Gary Neville says Liverpool have a good chance of winning the Premier League this season after their 1-0 win at Everton

Gary Neville has told Liverpool that they have a good chance of winning the Premier League title this season after their dramatic 1-0 derby win at Everton on Monday night.

After a goalless first half in which chances were few and far between at Goodison Park, Liverpool eventually netted the winner deep into stoppage time when Sadio Mane reacted quickest in the box to fire home after Daniel Sturridge’s shot had rebounded off the post.

The win was a crucial one in terms of Liverpool’s title hopes as it lifted them up into second place in the Premier League table and left them six points behind leaders Chelsea heading into Christmas.

And former Manchester United defender Neville delivered an in-depth assessment of the result and what it means for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Neville said: “To win in that way is the best way to win in football because the feeling in the dressing room is incredible.

“A week last Sunday, think where Liverpool were in terms of conceding the goals at Bournemouth… to win 1-0 – it’s very important.

“Were Liverpool at their absolute best tonight? If they had’ve been I think they’d have destroyed Everton in the second half. Liverpool have been sensational at times in terms of their attacking play.

“They’ve had to dig that one out tonight They had to battle. They should get credit for the clean sheet tonight because it wasn’t easy for them.

“Liverpool have a chance to win the league – and if they’re going to do it there will have to be more of that, where it’s not particularly pleasant or the greatest performance in the world, where they dig it out, battle and keep their composure.”
