Gary Neville: This Chelsea midfielder deserves credit
The Manchester United legend felt compelled to mention N'Golo Kante's performance in Chelsea's 3-1 win at Manchester City
Gary Neville felt N’Golo Kante deserved praise for the midfielder’s performance in Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Manchester City on Saturday despite Diego Costa’s display stealing the headlines.
The France international was without his customary midfield partner Nemanja Matic as Cesc Fabregas deputised for the injured Serbia international at the Etihad Stadium.
And Matic’s absence wasn’t felt as Antonio Conte’s side managed to land a huge blow on their title rivals thanks to goals from Costa, Willian and Eden Hazard in the second half.
Kante moved to Chelsea in a £32m deal from Premier League champions Leicester City in the summer transfer window after helping the Foxes win an unlikely top-flight crown.
Former Manchester United defender Neville singled out Kante for special praise after the defensive midfielder’s influential performance at the Eastlands outfit.
“I gave Diego Costa was man of the match but I’ve got to mention N’Golo Kante. N’Golo Kante was brilliant,” Neville told Sky Sports.
Chelsea are three points clear of second-placed Arsenal in the Premier League title race after 14 games.
The Blues are four points ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of their home clash against West Brom on Sunday.
