Gary Neville: This is the challenge for Liverpool in the title race
Gary Neville discusses Liverpool's Premier League title hopes after their 4-3 loss to Bournemouth on Sunday
Gary Neville believes that Liverpool will have to sort out the defensive side of their game if they want to mount a serious title challenge this season.
The Reds endured a disappointing afternoon on Sunday when they were pegged back despite leading 2-0 and 3-1 and eventually beaten 4-3 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Liverpool have been talked up as one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season under Jurgen Klopp following his appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
The Reds do not have the distraction of European football this season as they concentrate solely on domestic affairs this term.
Sunday’s defeat left Liverpool four points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea after 14 games of the new season.
However, former Manchester United defender Neville feels that the defensive positions are Liverpool’s weaknesses.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon, Neville said: “The challenge for Liverpool is the defence, it always has been for the last few years. But also now the goalkeeper as well.”
Liverpool finished eighth and without a trophy last season.
