Gary Neville: This Man United signing has a bit of Eric Cantona to him
The former Manchester United defender likens Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Red Devils icon Eric Cantona
Gary Neville has likened Manchester United summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the club legend Eric Cantona.
The Red Devils signed the former Sweden international in a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the summer as new manager Jose Mourinho looked to bolster his attacking options.
Ibrahimovic has proven a prolific goal-scorer in the Premier League so far after his first-half winner in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion last weekend took his tally to 11 goals in the current campaign.
The 35-year-old centre-forward has also scored five times in the Community Shield, the Europa League and the League Cup combined this season.
However, the towering striker has shown a lack of discipline at times after picking up five yellow cards in 16 Premier League games.
Speaking on the Gary Neville podcast, the former Manchester United defender admitted that Ibrahimovic does like to walk the disciplinary tightrope at times.
“Ibrahimovic is fortunate. He was fortunate at Everton a couple of weeks ago as well. He plays on the edge. He has got that ‘Cantona’ about him. He plays on the edge like him,” Neville said.
Ibrahimovic was one of four summer signings at Old Trafford after his move from Ligue 1 champions PSG.
