Granit Xhaka makes vow to Arsenal fans ahead of West Brom clash
Granit Xhaka promises Arsenal fans that he will learn to better channel his aggression in the games to come
Granit Xhaka has promised Arsenal fans that he will keep his aggression in check but says he will not change his style of play.
The Arsenal midfielder is currently getting to grips with life in England following his transfer to The Emirates from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer window.
Xhaka has become known for his physical style of play and was sent off six times for club and country during his time at Gladbach, picking up 48 yellow cards.
However, the Swiss midfielder has now gone eight games without being booked at Arsenal.
And the 24-year-old says that he is focused on becoming the best player he can be.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website, Xhaka said: “There are of course phases in the game where the line becomes blurred, but then you need to step up psychologically. I play with a lot of emotion because I’m a passionate guy and I play with that passion.
“I love playing that way. Sometimes you’re late onto the ball, sometimes you’re not. Sometimes you make contact with the guy when you tackle him, sometimes not. It’s a sport where individual duels are vital so I don’t see it as a problem.
“I wouldn’t change myself for anybody. I am who I am, people accept me or they don’t. I have my strengths and my weaknesses which I can try to improve upon, of course. I’m still not the finished product. I’m only 24 so I’ve got plenty of time to keep improving.”
Xhaka will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action on Boxing Day with a home clash against West Brom at The Emirates.
Arsenal have lost their last two Premier League games 2-1 to Everton and Manchester City.
