Henrik Larsson gives his approval to Man United signing this player in January

Henrik Larsson backs Victor Lindelof to be a big hit at Manchester United if he joins the club in January

Henrik Larsson says Victor Lindelof would be a big success at Manchester United should he sign for the Red Devils in the January transfer window.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a January bid for the Benfica defender in recent days as Jose Mourinho looks to further shore up his rearguard at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has already bolstered his defensive options with the signing of Eric Bailly from Villarreal in the summer transfer window but it seems that the Portuguese coach is keen to add further cover at the back.

Recent reports in the Portuguese media have suggested that Lindelof is on the verge of completing a £38m transfer to Manchester United next month.

And former Sweden international Larsson is backing Lindelof to be a success at Old Trafford should he move to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Larsson is quoted as saying by Portuguese newspaper DN: “He is already playing at a high level, so he’s prepared for a club like Manchester United,” Larsson told Portuguese newspaper DN.

“He is at a club like Benfica and he is also a first choice for Sweden.

“[Swedes] are a very adaptable people, whether in football or any other activity.

“I think the Swedes are very prepared as a people to take on any kind of challenge and it will not be difficult for Lindelof to adapt to the style of English football.

“Lindelof has the ability to do more than one position on the team, which is great, and in all of them at a very high level. Two years ago he was a name that came as a target for my team and we tried to see if he would could get him but unfortunately we could not.

“I did not keep up with all his games this season, but the talent is there, the mistakes everyone makes are perfectly natural, and it’s all natural for a youngster like him.

“Jose Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world, just look at everything he has already achieved, working with him he can become one of the best in the world.

“He has a great talent, he is very fast for a defender and knows how to read the game very well.

“Victor has everything a coach looks for in a player of his position, so I think he will be even better in the next few years.”
