Henrikh Mkhitaryan discusses his relationship with Jose Mourinho at Man United
Henrikh Mkhitaryan issues his backing for Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho this season
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has issued his backing for Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho this season.
Mkhitaryan has endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford following his arrival at the club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
The Armenia international struggled with form and fitness during the opening few weeks of the campaign but has produced some promising performances for the Red Devils in recent weeks.
Mkhitaryan will now be hoping to hold down a regular starting spot in the Red Devils team as the hectic festive period in the Premier League looms large.
And the playmaker has lifted the lid on how his first few weeks at Old Trafford unfolded.
Mkhitaryan told Sky Sports News HQ: “There was no bad relation with him [Mourinho], it was always good but the problem wasn’t him, it was me.
“Now I understand why I have got my chance and I will keep it, I will hold it, because it is very important for me to play, to be a part of Manchester United.
“I was thinking that I would be here as a starting line-up player but when I arrived I saw that there were 25 players fighting for their place and I understood that it wasn’t going to be easy.
“I had a bad game against Manchester City but that is in the past so I kept working. I have done a great job to get my chance back and I think I did it a really long way until I start playing.”
Mkhitaryan will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch home clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League table.
