How Antonio Conte is getting best from Eden Hazard at Chelsea – pundit
Glenn Hoddle discusses Eden Hazard's remarkable upturn in form at Chelsea this season
Antonio Conte deserves credit for helping to get the best out of Eden Hazard at Chelsea this season, according to Glenn Hoddle.
Hazard looks like a man reborn after the disappointment of his stuttering performances for Chelsea last season as the Blues ended up in 10th place in the table and without a trophy.
The Belgian’s dip in form was in stark contrast to his displays in the 2014-15 season, when the 25-year-old won the PFA player of the year award on his way to helping Chelsea win the Premier League title and League Cup.
Hazard has already scored eight goals and made one assist in 15 games for Chelsea so far this season to help them up to the top of the Premier League table.
And Conte deserves praise for helping to get the best out of the playmaker, according to former Tottenham boss Hoddle.
Speaking on BT Sport, Hoddle said: “A lot of it’s got to go down to him [Conte] because of the change of system.
“They’ve gone three at the back and that gives him a wing-back in behind him and you’ve got a left-sided centre-half that can cover people if they go down that side as well.
“He’s covered off defensively and that’s allowed him to take the chains off him and go and play and he can sit out sometimes.
“If the manager’s set it up like that and they get the ball to him, he’s got the freedom of the park.
“The opposition have got come up with something that’s going to force Hazard to go back and defend.”
Hazard will be expecting to feature when Chelsea take on Sunderland on Wednesday night in the Premier League.
