Ian Rush: This Liverpool striker needs to take big chance after Philippe Coutinho injury
The Liverpool legend urges Divock Origi to step up to the mark in the absence of Philippe Coutinho
Ian Rush says Divock Origi needs to take his big chance to impress in the Liverpool side after Philippe Coutinho’s injury.
The Belgium international replaced Coutinho in the 33rd minute of their Premier League clash at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Origi broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with a clinical finish from just inside Sunderland’s area before Liverpool vice-captain James Milner doubled the home side’s lead from the penalty spot.
The former Lille man started Liverpool’s EFL Cup quarter-final clash against Leeds United on Tuesday night and Origi made the breakthrough in the second half with a powerful finish to help secure a 2-0 win.
Ex Liverpool striker Rush has urged Origi to take his opportunity to shine in Klopp’s team in the absence of Coutinho following the playmaker’s serious ankle injury.
“Origi has to take his chance when it comes,” Rush told talkSPORT on Tuesday.
“When you get a chance you have to take it – you only get so many chances. It’s a big, big chance for Origi to show what he can do.”
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of leaders Chelsea after 13 games.
The Reds will make the long trip to Bournemouth in their next Premier League game.
