Ian Wright: Diego Costa winds up Chelsea’s opponents without trying
The former Arsenal striker delivers his verdict on the behaviour of Chelsea striker Diego Costa
Ian Wright claimed that Diego Costa’s natural game winds up Chelsea’s opponents after Saturday’s 3-1 win against Manchester City.
The Spain international cancelled out Gary Cahill’s own goal with a clinical finish in the second half at the Etihad Stadium.
Costa has now scored 11 times in 14 Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 season so far after a scintillating start to life under Antonio Conte.
The Chelsea striker has remarkably been on his best behaviour in the Premier League since the Italian coach took over the reins at Stamford Bridge.
Former Arsenal forward Wright explained why Costa doesn’t need to worry about winding up opponents.
“He is so integral to their team. He’s just focused on doing what he does best. His natural game annoys people anyway. His link-up play against City was absolutely fantastic,” Wright told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show.
Costa has netted 11 times and has made five assists in 14 Premier League games in the 2016-17 season.
Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and four points clear of Manchester City.
The west London side will host West Bromwich Albion in their next top-flight fixture at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.
The Blues finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season.
