Ian Wright makes prediction about Virgil van Dijk amid Liverpool link
The Arsenal legend doesn't expect Virgil van Dijk to stick around too long at Southampton
Ian Wright believes Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk will be playing for a top-four club at the start of the 2017-18 Premier League season.
The Netherlands international has been one of the Premier League’s standout centre-halves in the 2016-17 campaign so far despite manager Ronald Koeman swapping Southampton for Everton.
The Sun reported on Thursday that Liverpool are preparing an offer for the Dutch centre-half ahead of the January transfer window but could face competition from Everton.
Manchester United have previously been linked with a move for the former Celtic defender as Jose Mourinho looks to ease his injury crisis in defence.
Former Arsenal striker Wright doesn’t expect Van Dijk to leave Southampton in the January transfer window but is tipping the Netherlands star to be playing at one of the Premier League’s top-four clubs at the start of next season.
“It won’t happen in January but he won’t be starting at Southampton next season. He’ll be somewhere else – top four,” Wright told The Sun Goals podcast.
Liverpool made seven signings in the summer transfer window after the Reds finished in eighth place in Jurgen Klopp’s first season in charge at Anfield.
