Ian Wright reacts to Lucas Perez’s display in Arsenal’s win 4-1 win at Basel
Ian Wright was thrilled by Lucas Perez's display for Arsenal against Basel on Tuesday night
Ian Wright is hoping that Lucas Perez will be able to take plenty of confidence from his impressive performance for Arsenal in Tuesday’s 4-1 Champions League win in Basel.
The Spanish striker was in superb form as he hit a hat-trick to help the Gunners claim victory over the Swiss side and top their Champions League group.
Perez joined Arsenal from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer transfer window but has had found his first-team opportunities restricted due to injury.
However, the Spaniard staked his claim for a spot in the first team by scoring twice in the first half and again after the break to help Arsenal on their way to victory.
Alex Iwobi then added a fourth to hand Arsenal a win to help them top their Champions League group after PSG’s 2-2 draw with Ludogorets in Paris.
Speaking on BT Sport straight after the final whistle, Wright said: “I was pleased for him because there were a lot of questions being asked. He got injured when he first got in.
“I saw him do this a few times in Spain, getting on the end of things and finishing.
“It’s good to see and hopefully he can kick on from there with the confidence that will give him.”
