Ian Wright tells Arsenal: This is how you get best out of Mesut Ozil

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says Mesut Ozil needs to be surrounded by top-quality players

Ian Wright believes Arsenal need to provide Mesut Ozil with top quality team-mates to get the best out of their club-record signing.

The Germany international was criticised for his performance in a 2-1 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Tuesday night after Seamus Coleman and Ashley Williams cancelled out Alexis Sanchez’s deflected opener.

Arsenal are in third place in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Chelsea after their 14-game unbeaten came to an end on the blue half of Merseyside.

The Gunners will return to Premier League action at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon as Arsene Wenger’s side looked to rebound from a second top-flight defeat.

Former Arsenal striker Wright attempted to defend Ozil after the Germany international’s muted performance against the Toffees at Goodison Park.

“Mesut Ozil is a top quality player who just needs top quality players to pass to. Sometimes if you put pressure on Arsenal like they have shown, you can get the better of them,” Wright told The Sun Goals podcast.

Ozil moved to Arsenal in a £42.5m deal from La Liga outfit Real Madrid in August 2013.
