Ian Wright: This Arsenal striker reminds me of Luis Suarez, he’s always on full tilt
Ian Wright heaps praise on Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez after his tireless displays for the Gunners
Ian Wright has likened Alexis Sanchez to Barcelona striker Luis Suarez and has called on his Arsenal team-mates to replicate the forward’s work-rate.
The Chile international endured a frustrating afternoon on Sunday as the 28-year-old was powerless to prevent the Gunners from suffering a 2-1 loss to title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling in the second half condemned Arsenal to a second successive Premier League defeat after Arsenal lost 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park last week despite Sanchez’s free-kick.
Sanchez has a scored a credible 12 goals and has made six assists in 17 Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 season so far to just about keep Arsenal involved in the title race.
Speaking to BBC’s 606 podcast after Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, Wright explained why Sanchez reminds him of former Liverpool striker Suarez.
“He reminds me of how Luis Suarez plays. They go for it. They’re always on full tilt. That’s what we need from the other players. They need to get to the levels of him,” Wright said.
“At the moment we need him. If we don’t have him on there, nothing is going to happen. He set the goal up at Manchester City and he scored the free-kick at Everton. He’s got to play.”
Arsenal are in fourth place in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea in the title race.
