Ian Wright warns Liverpool, Tottenham over Jose Mourinho’s side
The Arsenal legend discusses Manchester United's potential in the top-four race
Ian Wright has warned Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur that Manchester United aren’t out of the race for a top-four finish.
The Red Devils were 1-0 winners against rivals Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday after Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored his first Premier League goal in the first half.
Manchester United ended a run of three successive 1-1 stalemates with Arsenal, West Ham United and Everton thanks to their slender win against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Crystal Palace, Jose Mourinho’s side had only managed to win three of their last 13 Premier League games to leave the Red Devils a staggering 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
However, former Arsenal striker Wright is loathe to write off Manchester United in the battle for a top-four finish ahead of their clash against his old employers Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live on Sunday evening, Wright said:
“People are saying Jose Mourinho doesn’t know his best team but they’re still amongst it.
“Manchester United are going to cause some problems especially when you look at Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham dropping points.
“But Manchester United are still well amongst this in terms of top four.”
Manchester United appointed Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor in May after the Red Devils finished in fifth place in the table last term.
