Ian Wright’s response when asked if Arsenal can win the title
The Arsenal legend plays down talk of the Gunners winning the Premier League title this season
Ian Wright has poured cold water on talk of Arsenal winning the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners are looking to end a 12-year title drought in the 2016-17 season after Arsene Wenger last tasted Premier League glory with his famous Invincibles side in 2003-04.
Arsenal finished in second place in the table last season but the Gunners ended the campaign 10 points adrift of surprise Premier League champions Leicester City.
Wenger signed five players in the summer transfer window as the Arsenal boss looked to address some areas of weakness in his side.
Granit Xhaka moved to the north London club in a £33m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach at the start of the summer.
Arsenal completed a £35m deal for Valencia centre-half Shkodran Mustafi towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Speaking on BT Score after Premier League leaders Chelsea were 3-1 winners at Manchester City, the ex Gunners striker was asked if Arsenal could still win the title.
Wright said: “No. I don’t think so especially after how Chelsea played. They seem to have the momentum at the moment. I haven’t seen anything from Arsenal’s last three or four games to make me think they’re there yet.”
