Ian Wright’s response when asked if Arsenal could sign Atletico Madrid striker

The Arsenal legend tells the Gunners to forget about Antoine Griezmann and focus on securing Alexis Sanchez's future

Ian Wright has laughed off talk of Arsenal signing Antoine Griezmann, adding that the Gunners should be worrying about the prospect of losing Alexis Sanchez.

The north London side suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon despite Theo Walcott breaking the deadlock in the fifth minute.

Goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling overturned the deficit to seal three points for the home side as Arsenal lost successive Premier League games 2-1 after losing at Everton last week.

The Daily Mirror reported that the Gunners were keen to sign Griezmann in the January transfer window after the France international’s prolific spell at Atletico Madrid over the past three seasons.

When Wright was asked whether Arsenal could sign Griezmann in a big-money deal from Atletico on BBC’s 606 podcast, the ex-Gunners striker replied:

“No way. I’m more worried about Alexis Sanchez.”

Sanchez has scored 12 times and has made six assists in 17 games in the Premier League in the current campaign.
