Jamie Carragher blasts Chelsea midfielder over ’embarrassing’ transfer
The Liverpool legend can't fathom why Oscar wants to swap Chelsea for China in the prime of his career
Jamie Carragher has questioned Oscar about his proposed transfer to China from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The Brazil international is thought to be on the brink of a switch to the Chinese Super League, with the attacking midfielder reportedly set to earn as much as £400,000-a-week.
Oscar has found his first-team opportunities limited in the Premier League this season under Antonio Conte following the Italian’s appointment in the summer.
The South American playmaker has started just five Premier League game this season since the former Juventus boss took over the reins.
Oscar has won the Premier League and the Europa League since his move to Chelsea from Brazilian club Internacional in 2012.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, former Liverpool defender Carragher was critical of Oscar’s imminent move to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG.
“With the riches now on offer in China, I could understand a player’s head getting turned when he reaches 30 — but 25?” Carragher wrote.
“It is embarrassing that a player would give up his career and the chance to compete for the biggest prizes in the game just for money.”
Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table.
Antonio Conte signed five players in the summer transfer window.
