Jamie Carragher delivers exciting verdict on Liverpool defender
The Liverpool legend was impressed with Trent Alexander-Arnold's performance in their EFL Cup clash on Tuesday night
Jamie Carragher has lavished praise on Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold after the youngster’s impressive performance in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win against Leeds United in the EFL Cup quarter-final at Anfield.
The Liverpool right-back slotted into Jurgen Klopp’s side and looked composed in the home side’s back four as goals from Divock Origi and Ben Woodburn sealed their progress to the last four of the competition.
Alexander-Arnold provided the cross for Origi’s opener in the second half as he highlighted his ability to come into the Liverpool side should first-choice right-back Nathaniel Clyne pick up an injury.
And Carragher delivered a glowing verdict on the 18-year-old full-back after his promising performance against the Championship side in the EFL Cup.
“We know now why Jurgen Klopp only went in with one recognised right back this season. His performance tonight was the same as against Spurs,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He just looks like a footballer, a fantastic athlete, perfect for the full back position.
“He’s only 18, so you think about how he’s going to look physically in three or four years time. He looks like he’s already got the legs and the pace. The strength will come too.”
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and a point behind leaders Chelsea after 13 games in what promises to be a tight title race.
The Reds will make the long trip to Bournemouth in their next Premier League game at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
