Jamie Carragher delivers honest verdict on Arsenal’s title prospects
The Liverpool legend believes Manchester City are more likely than Arsenal to challenge Chelsea for the title
Jamie Carragher has stated that Manchester City have a better chance than Arsenal of winning the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners made the trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon as Arsene Wenger’s men looked to underline their status as title contenders with a much-needed victory over title rivals Manchester City.
Theo Walcott gave the north London side a fifth-minute lead as Arsenal looked to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park last week which brought to an end their 14-game unbeaten run.
However, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling scored second-half goals to seal a 2-1 comeback victory for the hosts and leave Wenger’s side a staggering nine points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher expressed his frustrations that Arsenal have once again flattered to deceive after their uninspiring second-half performance at The Etihad.
“It was a huge win for Manchester City. There were question marks about Pep Guardiola after what happened against Chelsea and Leicester City,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“If he lost another huge game, serious questions would have been asked. Sometimes you ask whether you can be bothered asking the questions about Arsenal. You just repeat the same stuff I’ve said over the past three years. You say they’ve got a great chance of winning the league but they let you down in big games. The same players let you down in the big games as well.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
