Jamie Carragher: Jurgen Klopp will say this star is Liverpool’s most important player
Jamie Carragher believes that Roberto Firmino has proved himself as Liverpool's most important player this season
Jamie Carragher has talked up the importance of Roberto Firmino to the Liverpool side and says Jurgen Klopp would be likely to pick the Brazilian as the Reds’ most important player.
Firmino has been a regular fixture in the Liverpool team this season and has earned plenty of new admirers since his arrival at Anfield from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015.
The Brazil international has scored six goals and made three assists in 17 Premier League games for the Reds so far this season to help Liverpool challenge for the Premier League title.
The 25-year-old has largely been deployed as a striker by manager Jurgen Klopp this term and has earned plenty of praise for his sparkling attacking displays.
And Carragher feels that Firmino has proved himself as one of the most important players in the Liverpool side this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Stoke City on Tuesday night, Carragher said: “He’s actually Liverpool’s centre-forward but he plays on the left when Divock Origi comes in.
“He just finds great positions and is fantastic in possession.
“If you ask Jurgen Klopp who his most important player is, I think he may say Firmino.
“I think it’s his work with the ball but also off the ball… that’s why Daniel Sturridge doesn’t play every week, because he doesn’t do the things that he does.”
