Jamie Carragher praises Jurgen Klopp for getting Liverpool decision right

The Liverpool legend was happy to see Jurgen Klopp swap out Loris Karius for understudy Simon Mignolet

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made the right call to drop Loris Karius in favour of Simon Mignolet.

The Reds boss opted to leave Karius on the bench for their trip to the Riverside Stadium last week after the German shot stopper struggled against Bournemouth and West Ham United in the Premier League.

Mignolet managed to keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough as goals from Adam Lallana and Divock Origi sealed three points against the promoted side.

The Belgium international retained his starting spot for Liverpool’s short trip across Stanley Park on Monday night as the Reds looked to record successive Premier League wins.

And Mignolet kept another clean sheet as Liverpool were 1-0 winners against Everton thanks to Sadio Mane’s added-time winner in the Merseyside derby.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over their bitter rivals at Goodison Park, Carragher heaped praise on Klopp for deciding to swap out Karius for Mignolet.

“I think he made the right decision to take him out of the firing line,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“Mignolet has come in and has made a few decent saves at Middlesbrough. I think everyone will feel a lot more confident with him coming in.

“Certainly for me, it was the right decision.”
