Jamie Carragher reacts to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s performance in Man United’s 1-0 win over Tottenham
The Liverpool legend heaps praise on Jose Mourinho's management of Manchester United signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Jamie Carragher believes Jose Mourinho deserves credit for his handling of Henrikh Mkhitaryan after Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
The Armenia international was on the score sheet in Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Zorya in the Europa League on Thursday night as he netted his first goal since moving to Old Trafford.
Mkhitaryan started just his third Premier League game of the 2016-17 campaign so far on Sunday afternoon as the 20-time English champions hosted title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder showed composure to place a powerful finish past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after Harry Kane’s wasteful pass triggered a counter-attacking move.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher has praised Mourinho’s handling of the Armenian playmaker after Mkhitaryan’s promising performance against the north London side.
“He is new to the Premier League. He was awful in his first game in the first half against Manchester City. He was brought off,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He had injury problems and he couldn’t get in the team. People are asking why. Maybe he wasn’t fit enough. He was training differently. He had a different manager.
“He now has two goals and two assists in his last four games. Maybe we should start saying Jose Mourinho has managed him well.”
Carragher added: “The form he is in at the moment, maybe Mourinho deserves some credit for the way he is handling him.”
The former England international took to Twitter to warn Manchester United supporters to not become too accustomed to hearing praise for their club from the Liverpool legend.

Mkhitaryan moved to Manchester United in a £30m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
The United star made two assists in the Red Devils’ 4-1 win against West Ham in the League Cup last month.
