Jamie Carragher reacts to Loris Karius’ performance in Liverpool’s 4-3 loss to Bournemouth
The Liverpool legend wasn't impressed with Loris Karius' performance in Sunday's 4-3 loss to Bournemouth
Jamie Carragher was critical of Loris Karius after Liverpool lost 4-3 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Germany Under-21 international appeared to have relieved pressure on his shoulders with two successive clean sheets against Southampton and Sunderland.
And Karius looked set to extend that run to three Premier League games after Sadio Mane and Divock Origi handed Liverpool a deserved 2-0 lead at half-time.
However, Callum Wilson halved the deficit from the penalty spot to beat Karius for the first time before Emre Can appeared to end Bournemouth’s comeback with a superb finish with 26 minutes remaining.
But the Cherries weren’t finished as goals from Ryan Fraser and Steve Cook levelled the Premier League clash before Karius’ poor handling led to Nathan Ake’s winner in added time on the south coast.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher admitted that he isn’t convinced by Jurgen Klopp’s summer signing after Karius’ erratic performance against Bournemouth.
“This Liverpool goalkeeper is yet to convince me in any game that he has the required standard,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He has played seven or eight games and it’s still early days so who knows what he’ll be like in two or three years, but he hasn’t done anything yet in those games that’s impressed me.”
Liverpool remain in third place and a point behind second-placed Arsenal after their 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth.
The Reds are four points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 14 games.
