Jamie Carragher: This has been Liverpool’s best player under Jurgen Klopp
The Liverpool legend has been impressed with Adam Lallana's dramatic improvement since Jurgen Klopp's appointment
Jamie Carragher has singled out Adam Lallana as Liverpool’s best player since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment in 2015.
The England international has been one of Liverpool’s most-consistent players in the 2016-17 season so far as Lallana continues to help the Reds challenge Chelsea for the title.
Lallana scored Liverpool’s equaliser in a 4-1 victory over Stoke City at Anfield on Tuesday evening to take the attacking midfielder’s tally to seven goals in 16 games in the Premier League.
The former Southampton captain has also created six goals for his team-mates to help Liverpool become the Premier League’s leading goal-scorers after netting 39 times in 18 games.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Stoke on Tuesday evening, Carragher explained why he believes that Lallana has blossomed into the club’s most-important player.
“This man is so important to Liverpool. A Brendan Rodgers signing who was questioned when he first came in but you could argue that over the 12 months Jurgen Klopp has been here, he has been Liverpool’s best player,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“That’s always been the criticism – does he do enough, is there an end product from him? I think a big thing is his change of position. He’s playing deeper but is getting more goals and assists. He puts his foot in, technically he can go off both feet, but he’s now adding that stuff in the box.”
Lallana moved to Liverpool in a £20m deal from Southampton in the 2014 summer transfer window under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
The German was named as the Northern Irishman’s replacement back in October 2015.
