Jamie Carragher: This is Liverpool’s main problem this season
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool have a "goalkeeping problem" this season...
Jamie Carragher has admitted that Liverpool’s main problem this season is their lack of strong goalkeeping performances.
Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have come in for plenty of criticism this term for failing to produce consistent displays for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Karius was brought in to Anfield in the summer transfer window to add competition for Mignolet but neither shot-stopper have convinced thus far this term.
Mignolet has replaced Karius in the Liverpool goal in recent games and has been in decent form for the Merseyside outfit.
However, former Liverpool defender Carragher still feels that the Reds have significant problems when it comes to their goalkeepers this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Stoke City on Tuesday night, ex-England international Carragher said: “Of course [there are still questions about Liverpool’s defence].
“Liverpool have got a goalkeeping problem, it’s not just one individual.
“The reason Loris Karius was brought in was because Jurgen Klopp didn’t think Simon Mignolet was good enough.
“A lot of the time when a Liverpool goalkeeper is being asked to make a save they should make, it’s going in. At times you want your goalkeeper to bail you out when you make mistakes.”
Liverpool finished eighth and without a trophy last season but are currently second in the table and Chelsea’s closest challengers for the Premier League title.
