Jamie Carragher: This man has been the key for Chelsea this season

Jamie Carragher gushes with praise for Antonio Conte and the strong start he has made to life in charge of Chelsea

Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Antonio Conte for the brilliant impact he has had at Chelsea this season.

The Italian does not appear to have taken long to get to grips with life in the Premier League after he was appointed as the club’s new boss over the summer.

Conte’s Chelsea side are flying high at the top of the Premier League table and head into Boxing Day’s clash with Bournemouth six points clear of second-placed Liverpool in the top flight.

The Blues have strung together 11 wins on the spin in the Premier League to boost their title hopes and leave them as the favourites to win the trophy this season.

The form of Conte’s side is all the more impressive when you consider that the Italian is less than six months into his first season in charge in the Premier League.

And former Liverpool defender Carragher says Conte deserves huge credit for the impact he has had at Chelsea this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “The shift in formation is the big thing. It wasn’t going well at the start of the season. The changes he’s made have made a massive difference.

“He’s getting so much more out of certain players. We keep talking about Pep Guardiola getting used to the Premier League… this man [Conte] has never been in it before.

“To be top of the league in such a competitive Premier League league, I think there’s no doubt that he’s been the standout manager this season.”
