Jamie Carragher: This seems to be costing Jose Mourinho at Man United
Jamie Carragher questions Jose Mourinho's recent tactical decisions at Manchester United
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Jose Mourinho’s tactical substitutions appear to be costing Manchester United valuable points this season.
The Portuguese coach’s decisions were put under the spot-light on Sunday after he opted to bring on Marouane Fellaini in the closing stages for United’s clash at Everton.
With United winning 1-0, the Belgium midfielder conceded a sloppy penalty within minutes of coming on, and Leighton Baines duly converted the spot-kick to earn the Toffees a point.
Mourinho has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s top tacticians during his successful spells in charge of some of the continent’s top clubs.
However, Carragher has questioned whether Mourinho’s choices in recent weeks have had a negative impact.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s draw, Carragher said: “He’s always done that, making that type of substitution or bringing a holding midfielder player on.
“But in these last few weeks at Manchester United they seem to be costing him, the changes he’s making,”
Sunday’s draw at Goodison Park left Manchester United in sixth place in the Premier League table and a staggering 13 points behind leaders Chelsea.
